My 2003 Thunderbird "Retro Bird"
The 2003 Thunderbird blends many aspects of various years of the earlier Thunderbirds. Features such as the hood scoop, the dropped nose and the egg crate grill all borrow from earlier generations.

Notice the large round taillights, most likely inspired by the 1961 to 1963 Thunderbirds.

The porthole window was of course borrowed from the 1956 and 1957 Thunderbirds. This particular car is Torch Red with a Performance White removable hardtop. The hardtop weighs about 85 lbs. and can be removed with two people. I have a hoist in my garage the lifts the top directly off of the car and it hangs from the ceiling for storage. I purchased this car new off of the lot at Bob Turner's Ford in Albuquerque in October 2003. The white hardtop was a rarely ordered item; most cars being solid colors.

The engine is a 3.9 liter double overhead cam version borrowed from the Jaguar, which Ford owned at the time. It produces 280 horsepower.

The wheels are the Premium 17" wheels offered for 2003. Also in 2003, a V-8 emblem was added to the front fender.

This is the "Partial Accent Interior" which included Torch Red accents on the steering wheel (not shown), the gear shift and the seat bolsters. Notice the brushed aluminum on the door, reminiscent of the 1961 to 1963 Thunderbird.

The trunk is rather small. Not a very practical car, but a joy to drive.
